Dojo Of Yamabushi: The KamiKai Orb

:: Ok, so I've been wanting to make a RPG for quite some time now, I've just never gotten into it all that much. Now that I'm going to do one, I'm just basing it on a story I wrote some time ago. I'll give it a whack. The first paragraph is taken from Wikipedia, but only because it would take me too long to actually write it out.::

Yamabushi began as yamahoshi, isolated clusters (or individuals) of mountain hermits, ascetics, and 'holy men,' who followed the path of shugendō, a search for spiritual, mystical, or supernatural powers gained through asceticism. This path may or may not have had a founder, as the myths surrounding En no Gyoja are numerous and complex; he is quite similar to a Japanese Merlin in this way. Men who followed this path came to be known by a variety of names, including kenja, kenza, and shugenja. These mountain mystics came to be renowned for their magical abilities and occult knowledge, and were sought out as healers or mediums, known as miko. Most of these ascetics, in addition to their devotion to shugendō, studied the teachings of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, or the Shingon sect, established by Kobo Daishi in the 8th century. Shingon was one of the primary sects of Esoteric Buddhism, according to which enlightenment is found through isolation, and the study and contemplation of oneself, as well as nature, and esoteric images called mandala. Both the Shingon sect and the Tendai viewed mountains as the ideal place for this sort of isolation and contemplation of nature. In their mountain retreats, these monks studied not only nature and religious/spiritual texts and images, but also a variety of martial arts. Whether they felt they had to defend themselves from bandits, other monks, or samurai armies is questionable, but the idea of studying martial arts as a means to improve onself mentally and spiritually, not just physically, has always been central to Japanese culture, outside from the specific tenets of one religious sect or another. Thus, like the sōhei, the yamabushi became warriors as well as monks.

In a small rural part of fedual Hokkaido, lies a small dojo. This dojo has been for some ages, and specializes in the mysterious art of Yamabushi. This technique is only inherrited by the lukiest of people, and every seven years, a master of Yamabushi is chosen. To watch over the town and to be admired by all.

In this dojo, five people train. All of them will attempt a test of strength, intelligence and loyalty this year, for the next year the Yamabushi master will be chosen.

Strangley, The current Yamabushi master, also master of the dojo seems to have a ace up their sleeve. This year wont be like the others, but will lead the five students on a adventure of a lifetime. Because this year, the Kamikai orb has caught their eye, and would do anything to obtain it.

:: In this RPG there will be five main chracters, so first come first serve, but if you're a good RPer, than you can become a main chracter by playing along. (perhaps a villian or relative of another persons character.) You can be whatever, a elemental, swordman, ect.

Also, I plan for there to be a journey of some sort a little ways into the RPG, something like the whole Slayers Journey if you will. Although as we go on, I'll see how it goes, and probably change my mind.

For this RPG, I would like it to read well, which means I would like you to put thought into your posts, and not just post little things like "akira punches and walks away."

That's about it. Everything else is a given. No godmodding, ect. Sorry if it seems like it's too hard of a plot to get into, I dont want it be just another crappy RPG. I want it to have some plot to it.

Cursing and all that is fine, also romance and all that is cool too, but keep it so that your mom can read it. If you feel you need something like sex to come up, make sure it fits with the plot, and its not fanservice.

Post profiles, than after a few days, we'll start. That's it! Hope this turns out for the better!

This sounds interesting but...I get the impression that their can only be men as the main characters because you kept saying "men" and "monks". If there can be women as main characters, I'd like to be one.

Name: Maki Matsumoto

Age: 16

Sex: Female

Hair Color: Dark Green

Eye Color: Green

Height: 5' 8"

Special Power Type: Spirt force. Maki has a special spirit sword that she can make appear when she wants. Although using the sword goes into her own spirit energy, so she can't use it for too long. Otherwise, Maki can conduct spirit energy at certain areas of her body. Since this drains a lot of her energy, she tries to rely as much as she can on physical strength, and trains everyday so she doesn't have to rely on her "special gift."

Personality Type: Maki is a strange girl. Somewhat of an outcast. Perfers to be in the great outdoors rather than in a secluded space inside. Maki is loyal, but only to people she knows well, so it takes her a while to trust people. She is generaly a nice person, but can be quick to anger. Also, Maki is a bit full of herself, and often lets her pride get in her way. All in all, Maki tries to be good, and just goes where life takes her. She hates to be lied to, and often feels as if people talk down to her, which only gets her more annoyed.

Bio: Maki lives alone after setting out to go to the Dojo a few years ago. After hearing her mother long ago had gone there, she wanted to see just how strong she had to be to go. After staying in seclusion and training for a couple of years, she went to the Dojo to train.

As far as family, her father is alive and well, but her mother is missing, and location is unknown to both her and her father. She's heard a lot about her, but from what her father had told her, she was left at his doorstep when she was just a baby. He assumed it was from her mother, who at a point he was in a relationship with, but he doens't go into it much, leaving her past and herself in mystery.

Maki doesn't get along much with the other four people at the dojo, but is a bit misunderstood, and comes off as a delinquent. She often gets in trouble with the Dojo although for being late, and not following what the master wants. (More will be told as the story goes on.)

Special Power~ Purifying light. Her power manifests in arrows of light who's power is magnified when fired from a blessed bow. The light purifies dark energy or breaks malicious spirit energy apart. She also uses this light for healing and defense.
Personality~ Shy and reserved person. She is a very loyal to those she loves. A very benevolent and pure soul. However she is a bit distrusting of people and a little afraid of getting close to anyone.
History~ Chie was abandoned at birth at a shrine. She was taken care of by the Shinto priests living there and became a miko under their instruction. The temple is close to the Dojo and she used to go there to train as one of the five as well as maintaining her duties as a shrine maiden, performing rituals and exorcising spirits.

Age: late 20's. Looks younger although.
Hair: Long Raven Hair

Occupation: Dojo Of Yamabushi Master

Powers: The true extent of Nayomi's powers have never been seen by the students. She refuses to show them off due to the fact that if she used it on one of the student, it would for sure kill them.

Personality: Nayomi does NOT look like a fighter, but rather a model of some sort. Nayomi is complety feminine, and flirts with men just like a young girl would. Although she acts this way, when it comes to the dojo, she is all around serious in raising worthy fighters and warriors to take care of the village in the future.

Past: Will be reviealed as stroy goes on.

Name: Amakaze Mitsuo
Age: 18
Appearance: Dark brown messy hair, gray eyes w/ slim glasses. He carries around a small jitte, a pronged sword with no edge used to snap the blades of other swords.
Height: 5' 11

Special Power: The ability to manipulate air, heat, and water. He mainly uses this power for constructive purposes, such as purifying and/or freezing water. He has yet to tap into his potential for combative abilities, but it's been said the best of his abilities would be to control the very environment around him.

Personality: Usually a calm, collected individual, although he comes off as a prude most of the time. He has no intention of fighting, but is far from a pushover, and will defend himself when necessary.

Bio: Born into a wealthy family, Amakaze always had a knack for his magical side. His family taught him everything he knew about the art of yamabushi, and became a child prodigy at age 13. However, on his 13th birthday, his home was attacked and burned down by bandits, killing his whole family along with it.

To this day he wanders from village to village, surviving only by his powers and intellect, and trying to find information about the people who took his home. Eventually he was invited to train in a special dojo, to which he accepted in order to prepare for the adventure of his life.

Name: Raziel Sanguine
Age:19
Apearance: 5'11", white skin, red hair, green eyes, has several scars on his wrists
Gender:Male
Clothing: Dark blue Shinobi Shokoza, but will change his clothing acording to the situation.

Persona: Raziel tries to be as helpfull to his fellow trainees as he can, and is often more concerned about his brethean then his own welfare, preffering to use bare handed fighting and staffs, he is often quiet and usually secretive about his self.

History: Hailing from England after his parents were brutaly murdered, Raziel lost everything, he disapeared and crossed europe and aisa, a drug addict and a masochist, he reached a huge low, but one day after an attempted suicide he was found by the master of the dojo, he has tacken a keen interest in the arts of deception and stealth. His past allows him to emathize with the sufferings of others.

Super amazing power type thing of doom!: Frost flame- Raziel calls upon an icy nothern wind that will freeze everything close to him, he can channel this into his fists and weapons giving them an icy sting. He also has limited telekinisis.

Hair: very short, dark purple, with lavender "bangs" that go a couple inches past her chin

Clothing: Kunoichi derrived, easy-to-move-in fighter clothes
Personality: passionate, head-strong, somewhat impulsive, honest, loyal, tough, dreamer (a very rounded character!)
History: Sanju has trained in Honshu to become a Kunoichi all her life. One day, she realizeds killing people wasn't what she really wanted. She still wanted to be a fighter, however. With her hard-earned skills, she set off to Hokkaido where the legendary Dojo no Yamabushi resided...

OK! First Post!

It was late spring in Hokkaido, Japan. The flowers blossomed, giving the wide vast green carpet of grass a beautiful splendor of color. The tree was all becoming lush with green leaves once again. And the Sakura trees gave the town a romantic atmosphere.

Unknown to anyone, an adventure of a lifetime was going to start in this most beautiful of settings. One that could quite possibly change the world for the worse. This fate however was laid in the hands of the oblivious students of the Dojo Of Yamabushi.

The dojo sat far on a mountain. Rugged rocks and grass lead a path straight to it, but of course in order to cross this seemingly simple of trails. Agility and strength were tested to their limits. A trait the students there knew all too well.

As you stepped up to the dojo, a vast field surrounds it. Undoubtedly for training and sparring matches. But it was still amazing how normal the dojo looked. Inside, some of the most strongest fighters lied within. Maybe not in strength, but in the art of Yamabushi, strength wasn’t all that was needed. Because with this spiritual yet deadly art, it would be best if you knew how to use it.

Inside, a woman who looked in her early twenties rubbed at her temple. She had an irked look on her face. Undoubtedly it was because she had been watching the five pupils finish a group training. Of course they passed it, but had taken more time and energy due to the fact that they could not in fact, work together.

She ran a hand down her long raven hair. She would have to think of something to put a stop to this. This dojo needed to bring out the most in these students, otherwise Hokkaido would be succumb to attacks and crime even more so. Without protectors, there was no doubt that the Dojo would lose its reputation, and eventually as time passed, die and beomce nothing more than a legend.

Standing up, her dark black kimono streched out on her body. It hugged her curves, and gave the illusion that she wasn’t a fighter at all, but more of a woman who would be an emperor’s wife. She walked over to the old wooden slide doors, and pushed them back. Behind her was what looked like a kendo dojo, except with weights and more weapons on the walls. She gazed out at the students either eating, or seemingly meditating, she couldn’t tell. Another thing she noticed was the lack of anyone eating with each other. She sighed and shook her head.

With a loud yell, that still had a tint of feminity to it, called out to the four visible students that were strewn in the field. “Students! Lunch is now over! Time to come back!”

Meanwhile, a young girl was walking up the path to the dojo. She brushed a few dirt clods from her baggy black pants. She then fixed up her open dark green gi. A black shirt could be seen under it, and it stopped right below her belly button. A dark green belt was also on the belt of the pants. Needless to say, she was coverd in dirt.

“Man…” she sighed annoyingly. “Sensei’s gonna kill me for being late again. Geez Maki, why cant you ever be on time?” She said, berating herself, as she continued on toward the dojo.

He carries around a small jitte, a pronged sword with no edge used to snap the blades of other swords. Height: 5' 11 Special Power: The ability to manipulate air, heat, and water. He mainly uses this power for constructive purposes, such as purifying and/or freezing water. He has yet to tap into his potential for combative abilities, but it's been said the best of his abilities would be to control the very environment around him. Personality: Usually a calm, collected individual, although he comes off as a prude most of the time. He has no intention of fighting, but is far from a pushover, and will defend himself when necessary. Bio: Born into a wealthy family, Amakaze always had a knack for his magical side. His family taught him everything he knew about the art of yamabushi, and became a child prodigy at age 13. However, on his 13th birthday, his home was attacked and burned down by bandits, killing his whole family along with it. To this day he wanders from village to village, surviving only by his powers and intellect, and trying to find information about the people who took his home. Eventually he was invited to train in a special dojo, to which he accepted in order to prepare for the adventure of his life.

Now that we have the main cast going, I can go ahead and plan to get the first big post set up. I have to work in like 5 minutes, so it'l be up in a couple of hours. Wanna make it good you know? Like I said, whatever is allowed, (which means up to M is okay. M is fine, but only in the cases where it makes sense to the story, not fanservice. Cursing is fine, and ect. First post will be up soon. Meanwhile, think of your entrances, although I'll set it up so it'l be eisier to make a first postr for your character.

The flowers blossomed, giving the wide vast green carpet of grass a beautiful splendor of color. The tree was all becoming lush with green leaves once again. And the Sakura trees gave the town a romantic atmosphere. Unknown to anyone, an adventure of a lifetime was going to start in this most beautiful of settings. One that could quite possibly change the world for the worse. This fate however was laid in the hands of the oblivious students of the Dojo Of Yamabushi. The dojo sat far on a mountain. Rugged rocks and grass lead a path straight to it, but of course in order to cross this seemingly simple of trails. Agility and strength were tested to their limits. A trait the students there knew all too well. As you stepped up to the dojo, a vast field surrounds it. Undoubtedly for training and sparring matches. But it was still amazing how normal the dojo looked. Inside, some of the most strongest fighters lied within. Maybe not in strength, but in the art of Yamabushi, strength wasn’t all that was needed. Because with this spiritual yet deadly art, it would be best if you knew how to use it. ~~~ Inside, a woman who looked in her early twenties rubbed at her temple. She had an irked look on her face. Undoubtedly it was because she had been watching the five pupils finish a group training. Of course they passed it, but had taken more time and energy due to the fact that they could not in fact, work together. She ran a hand down her long raven hair. She would have to think of something to put a stop to this. This dojo needed to bring out the most in these students, otherwise Hokkaido would be succumb to attacks and crime even more so. Without protectors, there was no doubt that the Dojo would lose its reputation, and eventually as time passed, die and beomce nothing more than a legend. Standing up, her dark black kimono streched out on her body. It hugged her curves, and gave the illusion that she wasn’t a fighter at all, but more of a woman who would be an emperor’s wife. She walked over to the old wooden slide doors, and pushed them back. Behind her was what looked like a kendo dojo, except with weights and more weapons on the walls. She gazed out at the students either eating, or seemingly meditating, she couldn’t tell. Another thing she noticed was the lack of anyone eating with each other. She sighed and shook her head. With a loud yell, that still had a tint of feminity to it, called out to the four visible students that were strewn in the field. “Students! Lunch is now over! Time to come back!” ~~~ Meanwhile, a young girl was walking up the path to the dojo. She brushed a few dirt clods from her baggy black pants. She then fixed up her open dark green gi. A black shirt could be seen under it, and it stopped right below her belly button. A dark green belt was also on the belt of the pants. Needless to say, she was coverd in dirt. “Man…” she sighed annoyingly. “Sensei’s gonna kill me for being late again. Geez Maki, why cant you ever be on time?” She said, berating herself, as she continued on toward the dojo.
