Favorite Ghibli Film?
I know this question has probably been asked before, but I couldn't find it on the first page of posts, so I thought I'd pose the question to you all: Do you have a favorite? And why?
I'm personally mildly obsessed with Howl's Moving Castle... I've even gone out and purchased the book by Diana Wynne Jones ;_; |

Hands down, my favorite Ghibili film as well as favorite anime film of all time is Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke!! From its spectacular animation to its incredible storylike with what it tries to imply about the spirits of nature trying to clensing itself from the pollution people have done to it. It was memorable, and I thought it was one of the greatest anime films ever produced in the industry. It's a timeless masterpiece!! Other studio Ghibili films I liked were Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away!! Great animation and storylines too!!

Princess Mononoke, for me its the most epic & powerful Ghibli film. It was also the first Ghibli film I watched and first anime DVD I bought.

Princess Mononoke. Had it all- amazing visuals, an epic storyline, characters you care about... I can't imagine topping it, really.

Grave of the Fireflies. Such an emotional film and one of the only films to make me cry.

I've never been a fan of Ghibli films. The only one I really like is Kiki's Delivery Service. It's just a deep coming-of-age story with a fun fantasy twist that's not too over-the-top. In fact, I find it to be the only Ghibli movie I could really deeply understand and relate to, at least while still being entertained (looking at you Whisper of the Heart), and without having its themes drilled into my head (Like half of Ghibli's repertoire). It was nice and subtle, with most of its themes only coming to me after repeated watches. If more of Ghibli's movies were like this, maybe I'd be a fan of them.

My vote's for Spirited Away. Like with chocolate, that was the first Ghibli film I had ever seen and it fascinated me greatly.

Princess Mononoke.
I also really liked Castle in the Sky and Nausica (which is basically a Ghibli film). Unfortunately, the rest of the American population was in love with Shrek, so Mononoke didn't win an Oscar, but Spirited Away did the next year.

Now that I have watched The Secret World of Arrietty, I have a new contender for favorite.
I do like Howl's Moving Castle as well.

I think Tales from Earthsea is quite underrated, I liked it the most among all the Studio Ghibli movies I've watched but it never makes an appearance on threads like this one. :/
