Oshii Develops Samurai Anime Film

Acclaimed anime and live action film director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Sky Crawlers, Avalon) will reportedly write the screenplay for Production I.G’s historical samurai anime film Miyamoto Musashi: Soken ni Haseru Yume (Musashi Miyamoto: The Dream of Riding with Two Swords). Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) is the legendary founder of the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu style of simultaneously weilding two swords, and the author of The Book of Five Rings, a highly respected philosophical analysis of offensive strategy.

The Musashi Miyamoto anime film will be directed by Otogi Zoshi director Mizuho Nishikubo. Samurai Champloo character designer Kazuto Nakazawa will provide the film’s character designs. The film is tentatively scheduled for Japanese theatrical release early next summer.
