Asakiyumemishi Anime Evolves

The Mainichi Newspaper reports that director Osamu Dezaki (Aim for the Ace, Ultraviolet: Code 044) has decided upon a new direction for his upcoming Tale of Genji anime television series. The project, first announced last August as an adaptation of Waki Yamato’s manga series Asakiyumemishi ~ The Tale of Genji, will now be titled Genji Monogatari Sennenki (Millennium Old Journal: Tale of Genji). Rather than an adaptation of the shoujo manga version of Murasaki Shikibu’s classic novel, the Genji anime will now be based directly on the original novel. The Genji anime is still scheduled to premier in January as Fuji TV’s 14th “Noitamina” series.
