Geneon to Merge with Universal

Advertising and marketing company Dentsu has revealed the news that Universal Pictures International Entertainmnent acquired majority ownership of its Geneon home video distribution subsidiary on November 7th. Universal will take over management of Geneon at the end of the month, and the combined Geneon & Universal distribution company will introduce a new company name in February 2009. Universal now owns 80.1% of Geneon while Dentsu retains a 19.9% ownership.

Geneon was founded in 1981 as Pioneer Laserdisc. Dentsu acquired the distribution subsidiary in 2003 and renamed the company “Geneon.”
