Higepiyo Anime Announced

Chorus Magazine has announced the development of an anime based on Risa Itou’s 4-koma gag manga Higepiyo (“Mustache-Peep”). The odd comedy revolves around Hiyoko, a small, intelligent bird with a mustache who is actually an escaped experimental test subject. Hikyoko has the ability to talk with her owner, the elementary school boy Hiroshi. Hiyoko teaches Hiroshi how to win schoolyard fights, and sometimes even defends Hiroshi from a bullying girl.

Award winning manga creator Risa Itou’s Oruchuban Ebichu comic was adapted into a cult hit anime television series by Gainax in 1999.
