Shojo Beat to Cease Publication
|Wholesale distributor Alini Magazine Services reports that Viz Media’s “Shoujo Beat is ceasing publication with the July 2009 issue–subscribers will receive Shonen Jump” to fill the remainder of their subscriptions. Viz Media has not confirmed the cancellation, but has ceased accepting new subscriptions for the magazine. The monthly Shoujo Beat magazine launched in June 2005 to serialize English translated shoujo manga.
Shoujo Beat will be the fourth Viz magazine to be canceled, following Game On! USA, Manga Vizion, and Pulp.

That’s too bad, I was really pulling for SHOUJO BEAT in the down economy.
Also, telling the remaining subscribers they’ll receive SHOUNEN JUMP as compensation is sort of an insult, isn’t it?
I’m so gonna miss SB. I thought it was the better mag, compared to SJUSA. It had more content, more variety, and a better feeling of interaction with the fans. But it was a victim of the decline of periodical and newspaper media. It’s also a shame that Viz was apparently right about Twinklight killing their market share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41OixAKZQWQ
Hell yeah, it’s an insult, but Viz == Shonen Jump.
I almost think they should just rebrand the whole thing as a Shonen Jump company, given the present state of both anime and manga.
