Cameron’s Battle Angel Next Year?
|Yahoo Movies reports that director James Cameron is prepping his live action Battle Angel feature for a theatrical release next year. Cameron has been kicking around the possibility of creating a live action adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s Gunnm manga for several years now. According to Yahoo, “Cameron is currently in pre-production on his next movie, Battle Angel in which he’ll use some of the same CG technology he created for Avatar. That film is slated to hit theaters in 2011.”

But will it have *smurfs*?!
1 month ago he said: “I am not even sure that I want to do this film at this point. I might. I still like it. But, it seems like every time I do a movie, it changes my perception of what I want to do next. So we have to see.” and now the movie is in pre-production and even dated for 2011?
O.o
Well, that link is probably relying on an IMDB entry which has the film out in 2011, so it might not be an accurate story.
I guess not.

@GATS
Cameron is executive-producing that movie, not directing.
Essentially, an executive producer handles business and legal issues, not creative issues, and they generally have a financial stake in how well the movie does.
Also, being an executive producer on a movie doesn’t keep you from doing other things. I mean, how many movies and TV projects has Stephen Spielberg exec-produced while actually directing other movies?
In short, Cameron’s executive-producing Sanctum won’t prevent him from directing Battle Angel, should he still actually choose to film it.
