Sentai Retires Sola
|Japanese licensor Bandai Visual has informed the public that due to a “clerical error” it accidentally granted distribution rights to the sola anime television series to Sentai Filmworks while American distributor Bandai Entertainment’s distribution license to the series is still in effect. Sentai Filmworks has voluntarily agreed to not release the series. Bandai Entertainment will continue to distribute its currently available release.

Wow! I wondered what sort of nonsense was going on when I heard “region 1 distributor of anime formerly known as ADV” was planning on releasing an already licensed anime series. It is odd that Bandai Entertainment and Bandai Visual don’t have better communications, but for how small the anime distribution industry is in the U.S. somebody should have noticed that this series is still on the shelf in stores with the Bandai Entertainment logo.
It’s always the cleric’s fault.
That’s just embarrassing, but I don’t know for whom more so…
It probably didn’t enter into production, so it could have been worse for Sentai. Given how exceedingly difficult it can be to track down license holders in Japanese, I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often. Good the matter is sorted out.
