To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit to you the opening of the award winning 1998 television series Serial Experiments Lain. Bôa’s “Duvet” was used as the series’ opening theme.
Hmmm, I kind of want to watch Lain again. It was interesting in 1997, but 2010 is a very different environment. The Wired happened via social networks and cellular phones have caught up with and surpassed the super futuristic elements, so it could be a solid and different experience this go round. Of course, I also now have a degree in Communication to throw at the Marshall McLuhan influences, so that could be a factor.
Too bad Geneon went under and I didn’t grab the series while it was still affordable. Maybe someone will license rescue it and put out a thin pack.

That brought back some good memories. My Lain DVDs have been a cornerstone of my anime collection for years. My plush bearsuit Lain has been a cornerstone of my bookshelf for years as well.
Lain nailed it pretty well on the predication of the near future. Even when it arrived in the US, the world was a completely different place socially, and Lain was a look at what would be (minus the internet demi-gods). Amazing series that has never come close to being replicated and a must have for any anime fan.

Such a great series.
Such an incredible track… definitely sums up the series with great acuity.
This is probably one of my favorite openings. It is just phenomenal.
