Discotek Reveals New Licenses
Discotek has announced its acquisition of four additional titles: the Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu Galaxy Express 999 anime films, the first Project A-ko anime film, the 2001 live action Shurayuki Hime movie, and the 2007 live action Aquarian Age movie, based on the Broccoli CCG.
Viz released the two GE999 movies on American VHS, but neither film has ever been officially released on American DVD. Central Park Media previously distributed the Project A-ko anime franchise. ADV Films previously distributed the Shurayuki Hime ~Princess Blade~ movie on domestic DVD.

This is great news to hear older titles are being saved, especially ones that have never been officially released on DVD in the U.S. before. It’s also good for the wallet. I really didn’t want to spend upwards of $100 for the original Project A-ko, as well as FLCL (being re-released by Funimation) and Record of Lodoss War TV and OAV series (being re-released by Media Blasters).

I’ve always wanted to get the Galaxy Express films on legal, licensed DVD!
The A-Ko movie is also a worthy license rescue and by far the best in the series, period… I’d like to get a restored version of the movie on Blu ray myself!
Back in the day, I loved this film so much that I bought it in every format that CPM ever released it in — VHS, dubbed VHS, laserdisc, and finally the boxset of the entire A-Ko series on DVD!
Oh, and I agree with KDE….
The market for OOP anime DVD is ridiculous!
There’s no way with the meager market for anime in the States that any of these discs should sell for $100.

For some of those titles, based on quality, like Arcadia of My Youth, I could justify some price-jacking. I don’t know why anyone thinks Baoh’s worth $80, though.
