Ask John: What & Where is Blue Seed 2?

Question:
I heard about an OAV series known as Blue Seed 2. Being a fan of Blue Seed, I was quite curious to see what it was, and hopefully purchase some videos of it. I couldn’t locate it on your site, but I’m hoping for an explanation.

Answer:
Blue Seed 2 was a 3 episode OAV series released in a 2 then 1 format. Two episodes were released, then a third came a few months later. The first 2 Blue Seed OAVs were titled Operation Mitama Phase and continued the TV series storyline, introducing the new elfin character Valencia. The third OAV was a stand-alone adventure story heavily influenced by the American movie Speed. Instead of a moving bus, in the third Blue Seed 2 OAV, a terrorist rigged a hot spring to explode if the water level changed due to any of the girls entering or leaving the water.

AD Vision currently has the official option to license these OAVs for the American market, but apparently has not yet exercised that option. All three episodes of Blue Seed 2 have been released on a single region 2 DVD in Japan that retails for 5000 yen.
