GASARAKI is a guilty pleasure for me, so I’m glad to see it back out on the market. But realistically, the program doesn’t have any extraordinary outward appeal — it’s very slow moving.
I am highly interested in Martian Successor Nadesico: Another classic I have never seen.
Why is Gasaraki a guilty pleasure ? Isn’t it one of the important real robot shows ?
I was pleasantly surprised to hear Nozomi picked up the rest of the Dirty pair material. Though not as good as the orignal, Dirty Pair Flash is still a good title, and is one I hoped would be rescued. Also, I find it interesting that Nozomi will include both the Streamline and ADV dub tracks on 005 and Nolandia.
All older ADV material- none of which I’ll need to purchase due to already owning all titles listed, unless I really want the remastered versions.
Guess I’m surprised/biased in seeing that Nadesico’s license had expired or was allowed to drop, but it looks like neither AN or another well-known competing etailer has the series in stock any more.
GASARAKI is a guilty pleasure for me because there’s no real discernible reason for it to be a popular release in the U.S…. it’s a slow-moving political drama about stock manipulation, military industrial complexes, and criminal nepotism. The anime captures the essence of some of these better than others, I think, but should not be marketed as a mecha anime.
Not to say the mecha aren’t cool, they’re plenty realistic, only to clarify that the thrust of the program is a slightly above-average delivery of nothing people in the west think of when they imagine a hot-selling anime property.
What’s the guilt in liking Gasaraki? I enjoyed it quite a bit. Are you applying “guilty pleasure” because Gasaraki was not popular?
