New Announcements of Anime on Toonami

DBZ Info ha posted a report from a recent Cartoon Network press conference. The information revealed confirms that The Cartoon Network will begin to air 96 new Dragonball Z episodes sometime this summer, which will conclude the Dragonball Z series by the end of 2001. Also this year the Cartoon Network will begin to air new episodes of original Dragonball. Many fans are clamoring for Dragonball GT, but the Cartoon Network has decided to go with original Dragonball instead because of the significantly greater number of existing Dragonball episodes compared to the relatively short GT series.

Toonami will premier Escaflowne sometime this year. It’s still too early to know if the Cartoon Network will be the heavily edited American Fox Television version or the less edited Canadian version broadcast on YTV. Apparently the Cartoon Network is also considering broadcast an edited version of Cowboy Bebop. According to the report, the Cartoon Network is highly interested in developing a block of programming for mature/adult audiences that could include only lightly edited Cowboy Bebop episodes, but current demographics signify that children watch the Cartoon Network at all hours, making an adult block of programming on the network “still a no-go as of now.”
