Funding Sought for a Black Jack ni Yoroshiku Anime

Animation crowdfunding service Anipopo has launched an initative to raise 7.5 million yen (roughly $76,300 USD) by November 26 to produce a 21-minute anime adaptation of Shuho Sato’s acclaimed medical manga Give My Regards to Black Jack (Black Jack ni Yoroshiku). Subtitled and English dubbed versions of the anime episode are already tentatively planned.

The ongoing Black Jack ni Yoroshiku manga premiered in 2002 and received a live-action TV series adaptation in 2003. The manga revolves around a novice surgeon who becomes more galvenized as he becomes more aware of the corruption rife within the Japanese medical community.

Studio Kuma has created a pilot anime using the same “in-motion production” animation style that will be used for the crowd-funded episode.

I’m not extensively familiar with the original manga. While I’d like to support this production, a minimum donation of $71 USD (including shipping) to receive a DVD copy of a 21-minute-long motion comic feels a bit intimidating.
