Ask John: Why No More Utena?

I’ve heard that CPM won’t be releasing anymore episodes of Revolutionary Girl Utena passed the Student Council Saga and I was wandering why?

Answer:
I can’t provide any definite answer for you. While I have heard some rumors, I don’t have any confirmed information that I can pass along. I’ve heard that CPM is hesitant to release any more of the Utena TV series because the later episodes become much more mature-oriented, dealing with adult themes like betrayal, incest, sexuality, and loss of innocence. Judging from the number of questions I receive along these same lines, there clearly seems to be a large market of fans interested in seeing the remaining 26 episodes of the TV series and the movie. My advice is to send e-mail and letters to Central Park Media. If enough fans let CPM know that there’s a market for more Utena, CPM will be much more likely to release the rest of the series.
