Ask John: Is There More Pilot Candidates?
|Question:
I was wondering what you could tell me about the show Pilot Candidate that airs on Adult Swim. As far as I can tell, there were only ten or so episodes, and it was left without an ending. Is this an old anime show upon which they quit production, or is it currently airing in Japan, and the remaining episodes have yet to be dubbed? I really love this series and don’t see why it could be stopped after only a few eps, and if it did, why Adult Swim would show it.
Answer:
Megami Kohousei broadcast 12 episodes on Japanese television back in early 2000. Because it was a relatively minor, half-season production, it came and went in Japan without creating much of a splash. The TV series does not have a definitive conclusion partially because the manga series it’s based on was not complete at the time the television animation was produced, so the series’ writer had no conclusion to adapt for the animation. In a highly unusual turn of events, more than two years after the series ended, a new 30 minute long Megami Kohousei OAV will be released in Japan on the 25th. Presumably this OAV will serve as a concluding 13th episode.
