Ryuhei Kitamura to Direct Godzilla?

Fangoria Magazine reports that director Ryuhei Kitamura has completed filming 10 minutes of new footage to be added into “Ultimate Versus,” an revised version of the famous action/horror/fantasy film Versus. Kitamura says that Versus 2 will go into production in 2005 or 2006. In the meantime, Kitamura will work on his first American movie, and a “big” Japanese film. Rumors are that Kitamura’s next Japanese film project will be next year’s 50th anniversary Godzilla movie. Kitamura himself neither confirms nor denies involvement with the Godzilla franchise.

Fangoria also confirms that next year Rialto Pictures will release an American DVD version of the uncut, unaltered Japanese language original Godzilla movie from 1954. The original, unaltered Japanese version of Gojira has never been officially released in America.
