Ikebukuro Becoming Female Otaku Mecca

Japanese news site Livedoor has reported that the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo is beginning to turn into the destination of choice for female anime and manga otaku because of the area’s high concentration of anime specialty stores and bookstores that stock yaoi material. The Ikebukuro district has even earned the nickname “Otome Road” (Maiden Road), creating speculation that Ikebukuro may turn into a female Akihabara. Tokyo’s Akihabara district is the international mecca of predominantly male anime and video game otaku.
