Akira Kamiya Retiring from Detective Conan Role

Veteran voice actor Akira Kamiya, who has played Mouri Kogoro in the Detective Conan anime franchise since it started in 1996, has apologetically announced that unspecified personal reasons have forced him to leave the show. Kamiya made the announcement and apologized for his sudden, unexpected announcement to fans, Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama, and the anime staff & cast on his blog.

Kamiya has previously played major characters including City Hunter’s Ryo Saeba, Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken, Roy Focker in Macross, and Urusei Yatsura’s Mendou Shuutaro.
