Anime Network Issues a Plea for Support

The Anime Network has issued a notice to anime fans requesting that fans contact the Comcast cable network to express support for the Anime Network. The Anime Network’s press release vaguely hints that Comcast is threatening the growth of the Anime Network, and that, “Certain cable executives think they can program any old anime.” It appears that the Anime Network may be trying to encourage opposition to, or co-existance with Comcast’s own “Anime Selects” video on programming which predominantly broadcasts Central Park Media owned anime titles that compete with the Anime Network’s predominantly AD Vision owned titles. Comcast may be seeking to marginalize or compete against AD Vision’s Anime Network with its own Anime Selects programming, and/or may also be planning to launch a competing American version of Japan’s Animax all anime television network in association with Sony, as first hinted last September. However, the official Anime Network press release does not clarify exactly what the threat is that it’s seeking fan support to avert.
