Anime News from San Diego Comic Con
|Manga Entertainment announced at the San Diego Comic Con that they are hoping to have the Evangelion movies available on VHS in December and DVD in January 2002. Ghost Sweeper Mikami (which Manga has had license to for over 2 years now) may be released before the end of the year. Masami Obari’s cyber-punk action series Virus will be released next year. Manga also revealed that they have the translation and distribution rights to only the original 3 individual Rayearth OAVs, not the combined “director’s cut” movie version.
Pioneer has plans to release the El Hazard TV series, known in America as “The Wanderers,” on DVD this winter as a 4 DVD series. Current plans are to release the super deformed Ah! My Goddess TV series on several single layer DVDs. The American version of the Ah! Megami-sama movie may use the traditional name “Ah! My Goddess” rather than Dark Horse Comics’ Kousuke Fujishima approved “Oh! My Goddess.” Pioneer’s dub of A!MG will not employ the same studio or voice actors used in AnimEigo’s dub of the OAV series.
The American “director’s cut” release of Soul Taker will feature re-drawn, improved animation quality in some scenes but apparently no changes in content otherwise.
