Ask John: Any Chance Of Robotech On DVD?

Now that Macross is being developed for DVD. Any chance of the American dubbed version of Robotech seeing DVD. I would love to see all three stories plus Robotech II movie (Macross/southern cross/ Mospeada/ sentinels) make it to DVD.

AnimEigo is currently at work translating the original 36 episode Macross TV series for VHS and DVD release. I don’t foresee Robotech ever being re-released to home-video, though. So many different companies have owned distribution rights to the Robotech animation, including Streamline, Harmony Gold, FHE and Palladium, and the title is now so old that I imagine the license is either too convoluted for any new licensee to obtain, or simply lost somewhere. This is, though, in my own estimation. My advice is to contact your favorite licenser/translating company and let them know that there’s a demand for Robotech. There will definitely never be a re-release for Robotech if no distribution company believes there’s any money to be made out of the venture.
