Ask John: Any New Dragon Ball Coming?

Is there a new Dragonball series being made in Japan? I’ve been hearing rumors.

Answer:
All that I can tell you is that I’ve heard a rumor of a Dragonball D series. In my mind, it seems to be a pretty far-fetched idea, but not one totally out of the realm of possibility. While Dragonball Z is hugely popular in America right now, Dragonball has virtually been forgotten in Japan, given that the last new Dragonball anime aired in Japan roughly two years ago now. When Dragonball GT concluded, Akira Toriyama returned to his previous successful series, Dr. Slump, and re-worked the show for a new two-season series. This could very well set a precedent for Toriyama-san to bring Dragonball back to television, most likely in a re-vamped, updated version, as he did with Dr. Slump.
