Ask John: Clarification on the Bubblegum Crisis TV Series

Question:
I have a few questions about Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. First, is volume 12 Deathstrike the last one? Second, I heard that the last two episodes weren’t going to be released. And finally, I have heard rumors of a Bubblegum Crash Tokyo 2040. Is there any basis of truth in this rumor of a sequel?

Answer:
Bubblegum Crisis volume 12 will be the final VHS tape in the series released by AD Vision and will contain episodes 25 & 26. TV episodes 25 & 26 were not broadcast on Japanese television, which may account for the common rumor that the final two episodes will not be released in America. This rumor is not true. When AD Vision releases BGC TV tape 12, every existing BGC 2040 episode will be available in America. We haven’t heard of any existing sequel to the BGC TV series, nor have we heard of any plans for one. It’s now been almost 2 years since Bubblegum Crisis 2040 premiered on Japanese TV. If a new series hasn’t been announced by now it’s unlikely that a new series will be announced at all. Hope this helps.
