I am confused about the new Escaflowne release. When you say condensed do you mean that all the SAME episodes are simply packed into 3 tapes instead of 8? Is there anything new about the best collection? I also heard of an Escaflowne series that takes on a different perspective than what Hitomi experienced in Gaea. Does such a thing exist, and do you know anything about it?

The Escaflowne Best Collection tapes are a condensed version of the TV series. It’s kind of like watching a cliff-notes version of the show. The entire 13 hour TV series is boiled down into under 3 hours of clips. The new continuity Escaflowne that you’re referring to is the new movie, titled Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea, which is due out worldwide next year.
