The X theatrical film, due out soon in the US from Manga Entertainment, was a major Japanese theatrical release in 1997. The film was directed by Rin Taro, and featured stunning character design by Nobeteru Yuuki, in addition to state-of-the-art animation and background art that still stands up as exceptional, three years later. These two men served in the same positions on the Double X promotional music video clip, and the two Battle Angel OAVs. Based on the X manga by Clamp (translated into English by Viz Comics), the film tells the story of a young psychic man named Kamui who becomes the center of a battle between two rival groups of psychics, one attempting to rid the world of humans in order to begin anew, and a second group attempting to prevent this catastrophe. Since the manga is still on-going, the movie features an original ending created especially for the movie.
