Bandai for 2001

Anime Village has announced that there will be no uncut, Japanese language release of the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series (henceforth known as “First Gundam”) on American home video. Currently only a DVD version has been announced, which will contain only the dubbed, edited Cartoon Network broadcast version episodes. More bad news for hardcore Gundam fans is that there will also be no DVD release of the original Gundam movie trilogy in America. The Gundam OAV series- 0080, 0083 & MS 08th Team- will be released on uncut, bilingual DVD this year, though. While the Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz Special Edition DVD, which will contain all three OAVs and the combined movie and feature Japanese and English audio tracks, will be released on February 6th, a dub only, movie only Cartoon Network version of the Endless Waltz movie will be released on DVD in April. The Special Edition disc will retail for $29.98. The TV version disc will retail for $19.98.

A Cowboy Bebop DVD boxed set will be released in November for $199.98. The boxed set is $20 more expensive than buying the discs individually, but the set will come in a handsome collectable box and will possibly contain additional premium items. Bandai has revealed that the box alone may be made available to consumers that have already purchased the discs separately.

A Cartoon Network version of Blue Submarine No. 6 will be released on DVD in April. The disc will feature all four OAVs edited together into a single dub only movie. The original four uncut, bilingual DVDs will remain available for fans that want the full series.

The Saber Marionette J DVD collection 1 has been delayed again until February 13th to allow for time for further quality checks and improvements.

Bandai has publicly announced their preliminary release schedule for 2001. All VHS releases will be dub only. With rare exceptions, all DVDs will be bilingual English and Japanese. The new titles are as follows. A full list of all tentative Bandai 2001 releases has been posted at Anime Village.
