Bandai Reschedules Kurokami
|Bandai’s overdue and long awaited DVD release of the Kurokami TV series has been rescheduled for release on February 9, 2010. Originally scheduled for a June 2009 release as a 200 minute double disc DVD release retailing at $39.98, the series will now premiere in two revised release formats.
The first DVD volume will be a single bilingual DVD containing episodes 1-6 and non-credit OP/ED retailing at $29.98.
The first Blu-ray volume will contain English dubbed episodes 1-4 and non-credit OP/ED retailing at $24.98.
Yes, you read that correctly. The Blu-ray release is dub only.

I used to think that Bandai Entertainment understood best how to release DVDs including the coolest artboxes and bonuses with each high profile series they released (Haruhi & Luckystar; the original .hack//:Sign series; the Eureka Seven boxes and cool T-shirts), but they really seem to have lost their way.
I wonder if there were issues with the Japanese audio that it didn’t transfer to high-def very well. Other than that I can only assume that the reason for excluding the original (and personally preffered) audio track is sheer idiocy.
I really hope this isn’t one of those self-proclaimed “ahead of the curve” releases… “Hey, you know what? We can sell the Blu-ray release cheaper if we sell it dub only.”
