Behind the Scenes of Yaoi-chan
|Studio A-1 Pictures has released a 4:14 behind-the-scenes video for its upcoming Tonari no 801-chan R anime promotional video. The original opening anime will be included in limited edition copies of Ajiko Kojima’s Tonari no 801-chan manga volume 4 that go on sale September 10.
This video clip really reveals exactly how toilsome producing anime really is!

I love videos like these. Artists perfecting an imperfect craft.
But technology has moved pretty far in just the past eight to ten years. Technically, a number of anime studios don’t even use cels anymore… as exhibited in the video, some will draw the frames, scan them in a computer, and use computer software to color them. The physical animation of the frames occurs similarly for some outfits as well. The days of physically painting cels, setting them down on the glass copier, dusting them off with a brush, closing the lid and photographing the image… (and repeating thousands of times), aren’t entirely gone, but it still makes you think.
