I remember when the manga came out in the US. The company who distributed it changed the title to “Apocalypse Meow.” I wonder if Amazon will ask IDA to censor the title on the package to minimize any possible outrage.
Agreed. I can’t imagine many stores that would sell this with the current title, and it would be ill-advised to keep distribution limited. As much as I hate altering anime, it seems there isn’t much choice in the matter. Since IDA is based in Japan, maybe they don’t completely understand why this wouldn’t fly? Hard to believe, but who knows?
The show “Penn and Teller’s Bullshit” was released on DVD as “Penn and Teller’s Bullsh!t” and they just put a sticker on the DVD case to cover the name in the logo. I imagine they could manage something similar here if it became an issue.
I doubt Amazon.com or many other online stores will censor it. This considering how many other books and movies they already sell with curse words in the titles. The largest trouble the distributor would probably have is with physical shelf space (should they go that route), and whether they need to provide retailers with a means (sticker, boxing/packaging) to cover the swearing.
