Combustible Trailer Released
The homepage for director Katsuhiro Otomo’s (Akira, Memories) latest anime anthology film, Short Peace, has added a trailer for Otomo’s own most recent animated work, Combustible (Hi no Yojin). The historical adventure short film is based on Otomo’s own short 1994 manga story. The anime film premiered at international film festivals in 2012 and won last month’s 16th annual animation grand prize in the Japanese Ministry of Cultural Affairs’ Japan Media Arts Festival Awards.
Perhaps it’s just the trailer, but I’m awed by the visual design but disappointed by the stilted animation.

I think it’s supposed to be stilted, in order to reflect the age it’s set in.
That’s pretty intense. Such incredible details.
