Deva Zan Footage Revealed
|A 67 second teaser for creator/director Yoshitaka Amano’s samurai fantasy anime film Deva Zan has surfaced. While Amano has provided character designs for anime including Gatchaman, Angel’s Egg, and Ayakashi, Deva Zan will be his anime directing debut. The film will tentatively open worldwide in spring 2012.

Hopefully the movie will be a lot more interesting than 2 hours worth of generic videogame cut-scenes smothered in unconvincing illustration shader effects. After Angel’s Egg and 1001 Nights, I don’t think videogamey 3D animation is the best way to convey Amano’s painterly world, but here’s to hoping the above is merely a concept for a better final product.
I’m also reminded of the “BLAME!” movie adaptation which I had similar apprehensions about. I wonder if that project is dead.
