Discotek Acquires School Days

Discotek has revealed plans to release the 2007 School Days television series and its 2008 OVA Magical Heart Kokoro-chan in a subtitled DVD set on June 24. The adaptation of 0verflow’s 2005 adult PC game created controversy in 2007 due to the anime series’ explicit violence coincidentally coinciding with a real-life 16-year-old Japanese girl killing her father with an axe on September 17, 2007. The timing proximity of the killing led several broadcast networks to cancel broadcast of the final episode of the School Days anime. According to Discotek, “The masters are the Japanese home video version, which should be uncut. The Valentines Day OVA is with a different company in Japan and apparently isn’t cleared for international license.”
