Dreamworks to Remake “The Ring”

Dreamworks Pictures has spent roughly $1 million to acquire the right to produce an American re-make of the seminal Japanese horror film The Ring. The wildly successful film has spawned numerous sequels, a television series, an interactive amusement center virtual reality ride, and a console video game for Playstation & Dreamcast in Japan, as well as ignited an entire sub-genre of similar Japanese suspense/horror films. The original film is the story of a female reporter who, while investigating the death of her cousin, must uncover the secrets of a strange videotape that seems to kill anyone that watches it, before she herself falls victim.
