DVD News & Rumors

The second DVD of Tenchi Universe, the first Tenchi Muyo television series has been delayed for a non-determined amount of time. Pioneer discovered something amiss in the subtitles for this volume and is awaiting on check discs to ensure quality before sending the master off for full replication. At this time, it does not seem like this delay will affect future volume release dates.

The first volume of Ruroni Kenshin TV series has slipped from a July 18th date to a July 25th date. There appears to have been some miscommunication somewhere, and retailers weren’t fully informed.

According to Anime on DVD, an “extremely reliable source” has confirmed that the Princess Mononoke DVD will have a subtitled Japanese language track. If this is true, the disc will likely be delayed to incorporate this additional feature.

Urban Vision has remastered the Japanese audio track of Vampire Hunter D to stereo (the original soundtrack from 1984 was only recorded in mono) and have taken advantage of the new dub to create a 5.1 track for that. The DVD will have the following features: never before seen bonus footage of the making of Vampire Hunter D, stereo 5.1 extraction, dual language option, artwork by Yoshitaka Amano (the original character designer), the new Vampire Hunter D theatrical trailer, the original Japanese Vampire Hunter D trailer, and a preview of the new Vampire Hunter D Sony Playstation game.

Toriyama.org had learned the answers to some of the questions regarding the subtitles on FUNimation’s first DVD release of Dragon Ball Z (volume 18: Assault). The unknown translator turned out to be Steven “Daimao” Simmons. According to Toiyama.org:

“Although Steve’s scripts are extremely accurate there were a few slight errors with the first DVD. Several people have noted that the opening and closing were left unsubtitled. There have also been complaints about the use of the dub names in the subtitled version. To ease everyone’s fears we have confirmed that we will see subtitles on the openings and closings as well as the original names on the discs released after the second Ginyu disc. We should also see several other features on the future DVDs that will please fans. With each disc released we should see an increase in quality as FUNimation masters their work on the discs.”
