Final Fantasy X Price & Release Date Confirmed

Squaresoft of Japan has confirmed that Final Fantasy X, originally scheduled for release in March, will now go on sale in Japan on July 19th. The standard version of the DVD format game will retail for 8800 yen, and the limited edition “High Quality” version will retail for 10,800 yen. The “High Quality” version will span 2 DVD discs and include better picture & sound quality than the standard edition.

The game was apparently delayed to allow time for the inclusion of two additional summon monsters, “limit break” moves, and alterations to the game’s “atmosphere” due to the inclusion of spoken dialogue.

Final Fantasy X will have limited online compatibility, focusing mainly on mail and chat, and a “TetraMaster” game similar to the card game from Final Fantasy IX.

Final Fantasy X will initially only be compatible with the Playstation 2 and Windows based home computers. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of FFX on other platforms sometime in the future, and Square does plan on program future FF games for any and all systems that offer internet connectibility.
