Full Touhou Doujin Anime Online
|The dojinshi circle Manpuku Jinja released its full-length 16 minute long Touhou Project anime short “Gensou Bankakyou ~The Memories of Phantasm~ Shunsetsu Ihen no Shou” at last weekend’s Comic Market 80 and is now streaming the full short on Nico Nico Douga. The fan-created anime is based on the independely produced line of “Touhou Project” PC shooting games from developers Team Shanghai Alice.
If anyone cares, the opening theme is “Iro wa Nioedo, Chirinuru wo” performed by Senya with Yuuhei Satellite. Took me a while to find it.

wow, is it really unvoiced? They made all this pro-quality animation, but couldn’t gather up enough female voice talent for the deadline I guess.
And maybe this is just me talking, but the animation is professional almost to a fault. It looks like a run-of-the-mill anime production– as nice as a premiere episode of a TV show, but thoroughly sterile. I expect doujin anime to look _different_, in a rough-but-expressive way that makes them interesting to look at. There was another Touhou doujin-anime maybe a couple years back that had a cool fan-animated roughness to it.
Interesting to see its interpretation of bullet hell combat, though.
Touhou is something I never fully understood the appeal of, from the corny bullet hell shooter games to Zun’s official manga series (by various names & artists). Despite the rich mythology of the setting and the eccentric character designs, it never really seemed that interesting in practice. The fandom sure does produce a lot of great-looking bishoujo fan art, though.
