FUNimation Again Threatens to Sue Downloaders
|On May 27, Texas-based lawyer Evan Stone filed a second copyright infringement suit in Texas district court on behalf of FUNimation. This latest suit charges 1,427 anonymous individuals with downloading director Herman Yau’s 2010 live-action martial arts film The Legend is Born: Ip Man (not to be confused with director Wilson Yip’s 2008 & 2010 films starring Donnie Yen). FUNimation announced its acquisition of domestic distribution rights to the Chinese action film on May 11. The proposed lawsuit targets individuals that downloaded the film via BitTorrent from May 13 – May 26. The lawsuit was filed in the Eastern District of Texas Court.
Last March Mr. Stone, on behalf of FUNimation, filed a similar copyright infringement lawsuit against One Piece downloaders. That suit was filed in Northern District of Texas Court and was rejected by the court and eventually dropped.

If Funimation doesn’t do this, they go under.
Piracy has already slashed the company’s value by over 80%.
