FUNimation Announces New Acquisitions
|During this past weekend’s Katsukon convention, FUNimation announced its acquisition of distribution rights for the Bamboo Blade, Tower of Druaga, Dragonaut ~ The Resonance, and Blassreiter anime television series.
FUNimation has secured home entertainment and broadcast rights for Bamboo Blade. The 26 episode series will be released in two half-season DVD collections beginning this fall.
FUNimation has secured home entertainment, broadcast, and limited digital rights to the 25 Tower of Druaga episodes. The “Aegis of Uruk” and “Sword of Uruk” television series will be released in separate complete season DVD sets later this year.
FUNimation’s acquisition of Blassreiter includes home entertainment, internet, merchandising and mobile rights. The 24 episode series will be released in two half-season sets beginning late this year.
FUNimation has secured home entertainment, broadcast, digital, internet, merchandising and mobile rights to the 25 broadcast episodes of Dragonaut. The additional Japanese home video episode is apparently not included in FUNimation’s initial acquisition. FUNimation Entertainment will release the series beginning in late 2009.

Why? Someone explain this to me…
Blassreiter is a piece of junk.
Druaga is little different…
The only sense I can make of these is that this is a charity case to keep the dead Japanese company Gonzo afloat. It makes no other sense — at all.
