FUNimation Reveals New Acquisitions
|During its Otakon panel last weekend, FUNimation revealed its acquisition of the Aquarion Evol TV series, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari OVA series, and the Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection, One Piece: Strong World, Fairy Tail, and Akira movies. The distributor also confirmed home video distribution rights to the Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Sankarea, and Maken-Ki! television series.
The Aquarion: Evol TV series from earlier this year is a sequal to the 2005 Sousei no Aquarion television series.
The 2009 Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari OVA series spin-off from Tenchi Muyo will be released domestically under the title “Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar.” The mecha fantasy action series stars Tenchi Muyo protagonist Tenchi Masaki’s half-brother.
The Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection feature film is director & Yamato co-creator Yoshinobu Nishizaki’s 2009 sequel to the 1983 film Final Yamato.
The first Fairy Tail motion picture, “Maiden of Flame,” will hit Japanese theaters on August 18.
The 2009 tenth One Piece feature film, “Strong World” was the first personally supervised by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.
FUNimation also license rescued the 1988 feature film Akira, most recently released on domestic Blu-ray by Bandai Entertainment in February 2009.

Good to see AKIRA returning to the market. Although this is no garauntee that FUNimation will keep it in print three years from now, the more people who can purchase it at an affordable price, the better.
