Funimation to Move Into the Hardcore Anime Market?

Planet Namek has posted some brief questions & answers with Gen Fukunaga, president of FUNimation. Besides the confirmation that a Blue Gender movie is currently in production in Japan (and that FUNimation already owns the US rights to it), which is, in itself a major announcement, reading between the lines hints at big news for the American anime market. When asked about the translations of the Blue Gender and Yu Yu Hakusho TV series, Fukunaga replied that Yu Yu Hakusho will have its original dialogue re-written and “adjusted for mass market broadcast on a network.” The translation of the violent and mature Blue Gender, though, “will be more of a direct translation.” The juxtapositioning of these two points in the same sentence suggests that Blue Gender will not be coming to American television, leaving only the possibility of an AD Vision/Pioneer/CPM style uncut, direct to home video release.
