Funimation v. ADV Lawsuit Settled
|Court documents filed earlier this month and last month atest that the lawsuit and countersuit filed by FUNimation against A.D. Vision, and in turn by ADV against FUNimation, have been mutually settled out of court. In 2011 FUNimation filed suit against ADV and its subsequent sub-divided companies, including Sentai Filmworks, claiming that $8 million dollars that ADV owed Japanese licensor Sojitz Corporation was now owed to FUNimation since Sojitz transferred the distribution rights to most of the anime titles in the ADV catalog, and their associated fees and debts, to FUNimation. The former owners of ADV filed countersuit against FUNimation, claiming that FUNimation had no right to sue ADV’s decendant companies and that ADV owed nothing to FUNimation since ADV never signed any agreements directly with FUNimation. The following year, the non-operational but still legally existing A.D. Vision filed anti-monopoly suit against FUNimation claiming that FUNimation had driven ADV out of business. The 2012 AD Vision legal claim was thrown out of court.
