G4 to Change Focus & Name
|The G4 television network founded in 2002 is to be renamed and refocused as “Esquire,” as a parallel to Esquire men’s magazine, on April 22. The network that previously focused on video game culture and geek technology will expand its focus to target “today’s modern man,” by covering subjects including food, fashion, women, humor, travel, competition, and danger. The G4 network has previously broadcast a variety of anime series including Ultraviolet: Code 044, Viper’s Creed, the Marvel Anime series, RahXephon, and Cromartie High School.

Ouch. I liked G4 when it was new, even if it did only have like 12 hours of new programming per week. It was a fun novelty. Having it eat TechTV was kind of awkward, but I dealt with it.
I finally gave up when it turned into a wannabe Spike TV and started running stuff utterly unrelated to gaming or technology (like wrestling and I want to say cops?).
I’m glad they’re finally putting the poor channel down. It’s suffered enough and can now wander off into niche nostalgia where it belongs.
