Gantz First Movie to Play US Theaters on January 20
|Director Shinsuke Sato’s first of two live action Gantz movie adaptations of Hiroya Oku’s sci-fi action manga will receive a world premiere screening in 325 theaters across the US on Thursday, January 20 at 8pm EST. The film will be screened with an exclusive English dub.
What’s really the point of heavily promoting the fact that Kazunari Ninomiya and Kenichi Matsuyama star when their voices will be over-dubbed?

“What’s really the point”
Market testing. This is good for anime fans. Better penetration into other U.S. markets can help to support our beloved anime companies.
This will fail horribly because Gantz is not as well received here as it is in Japan by the actual anime fans. They should try this with a live action version of something with more universal appeal like Nana. Even try it with something a little older like a dubbed Perfect Blue.
Actually FathomEvents does this fairly regularly. In the past few years they”ve shown all 3 live action death note movies, The first bleach film. Sword of the Samuria and quite a few others. I don’t think they consider that any of them failed, especially when they show Operas, concerts and specials like Glenn Beck several times a month. They seem to do it just because they know there are fans out there
