Gatekeepers Confirmed for US Release

Pioneer has officially confirmed that the first 75 minute dubbed VHS and bilingual DVD volume of Gate Keepers, entitled “Open the Gate” will premier in the US on September 11th. Three episodes per release would match up with the Japanese 8 volume home video release.

Gate Keepers was the first TV series produced entirely by Gonzo Studio, the creators of Blue Submarine No. 6. The 24 episode sci-fi action TV series retains the look of traditional hand drawn animation and features character designs by Keichi Goto (Nadesico, Hyper Police). The story revolves around a group of supernaturally empowered teens in 1969 defending Japan from alien “Invaders.” The series was popular enough in Japan to support Gonzo’s announcement of a second series to be titled Gate Keepers 21, that will be set in the 21st century.
