Hasbro To Produce Its Own Duel Masters Series
|Hasbro has announced plans to produce an original animated series based on Studio Hibari’s Duel Masters shonen anime franchise, which is itself based on Takara Tomy’s Duel Masters collectible card game. Duel Masters has had seven television series and two theatrical films in Japan. Hasbro has confirmed that “Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters,” will air later this year on Hub, the television network co-owned by Hasbro and Discovery Communications. Hasbro has not clarified it “Kaijudo” will be an entirely American created production or if it will be animated by a Japanese studio.
I really don’t understand the appeal because even compared to other similar hobby anime like Cardfight Vanguard, Battle Spirits, Live On Cardliver, and Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Masters is pretty weak. Its various series are on par with Treasure Gaust, which didn’t last long at all.

I’d wager it has a lot to do with the fact that the Duel Masters card game is owned by Hasbro via Wizards of the Coast. WotC and Hasbro have been pushing their card game products through other media for a few years now, so they probably consider it a reasonable venture.
The fact that the dub for Duel Masters was written more like a parody of the genre than the source material could give it niche appeal.
