He Who Laughs Last…

The Japanese DVD version of Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke) has been officially announced for release on November 21st. The Japanese version will be a 3 disc special edition. The first disc will be the film itself with 5.1 surround sound, Japanese and English dubbed versions and optional English subtitles. The second disc will be the entire film presented as the original production storyboards set to the audio track and supplemental features including a 20 minute documentary on “Mononoke Hime in USA.” The third disc will be the “international version” of the film with audio available in Japanese, English, French, Cantonese, Italian, Spanish, German, and Portuguese.

The 400 minute long Making of Mononoke Hime, originally released as a Japanese 3 VHS tape set, will also be released as a 3 DVD set, also retailing for 4700 yen. It’s ironic to note that that “making of” documentary is three times as long as the actual film.
