Hello Kitty Robo Unveiled

Sanrio, in association with NEC and Futaba Industrial, have officially opened reservations for the Hello Kitty Robo conversation robot today, November 1, 2004, the 30th birthday of Hello Kitty. The robot will turn its head to face people and move its arms while it carries on conversations on topics including diet, health, shopping and other topics targeted at 30 year old Japanese women, Japan’s largest audience for Hello Kitty merchandise. Since Hello Kitty doesn’t have a mouth, her voice comes out of speakers in her feet. The Hello Kitty Robo also has camera in her eyes that enable face recognition.

The Hello Kitty Robo will retail at 450,000 yen (approximately $4,235).
