Japan Times Introduces Manga

The Japan Times has published an exhaustive English language article introducing the history and current condition of manga in Japan. The article mentions that comics still make up 38.1% of all printed material sold in Japan annually, but for the seventh consecutive year, sales of manga magazines has decreased. As has been cited numerous times before, Japan’s manga magazine publishers blame decreased sales on Japan’s used bookstores while the used bookstores blame publishers’ unreasonable expectations.
